3 Amigos go to the Seaside

When the boys heard that we live only about 7 miles from the coast, they asked very nicely if we could take them there - especially when they heard that there is a lighthouse there on St Mary's Island at Whitley Bay! They were particularly interested when we explained that the island is only really an island at high tide - there's a causeway linking it to the mainland when the tide goes out. So we checked the tide times and discovered that this morning would be a good time to go - especially as it's been another gloriously sunny day.

The main photo shows them posing on a fence with the causeway and the island behind. We then walked across the causeway and they asked to look in the rockpools (1st extra) - as you can guess, Trigger was the bravest and went closest to the pools. They were even more excited when we went round to the far side of the island and saw seals basking on the rocks - unfortunately however, no-one was allowed on that part of the rocks so as to protect the privacy of the seals, so we couldn't take the boys close enough for a photo next to them - especially as I expect Trigger would have barked at them and frightened them.

They then wanted to walk along the beach, and they decided to pose for another photo on a beach towel on the sand with the lighthouse behind them (2nd extra). We have some wonderful beaches here on the northeast coast, second to none anywhere in the world - but there's not many days in the year when the weather is warm enough to enjoy sunbathing there! Happily that means that they never get crowded like the beaches down south.

The boys were exhausted when we got home, so they're having a long afternoon nap as I write this. They need to be well-rested as they're going to meet an old schoolfriend of mine later today, whom I've known for almost 60 years. He's flying in from the USA where he now lives; on Thursday I'm heading off with him and another friend to go hiking in Yorkshire for a few days and the boys will be coming with us - I've not told them yet however as I don't want them getting too excited about that.
