Glowing leaves

An early start, walking round Thorpe Wood in the cool dawn air, carrying out the third breeding bird transect of the year. Everything is in full voice now, making it quite difficult to work out who is singing from where! It was good to see the treecreeper for the first time this year, and to have good views of the great spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker and the pair of stock doves, who are more often heard than seen.

After breakfast Pete and I went over to see Molly. She was in very good form, having decided that's she definitely going to live to her 92nd birthday in May. We spent most of the visit making plans to take her and Trev out to lunch to celebrate this. On the way home Pete and I dropped into the selected pub to make sure that it was accessible and had a suitable menu. We took the opportunity to have a beer sitting outside next to the River Glen  in the warm sunshine, watching a green woodpecker making a nest in a magnificent walnut tree on the opposite bank.

In the evening we had the first barbecue of the year, expertly cooked by Alex. A very good day!
