Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Winter Solstice 2012

Well, despite the predictions, we are still here, the world is still spinning and the days are about to start lengthening once again. The great cycle of life continues.

The gales are still blowing in from the North Sea, the waves are crashing over the harbour wall at the old fishing village of Collieston and the spume is banking up on the beach.

It's a very different place when the sun shines!

If you train the spyglass on the stony beach at the head of the little bay beyond the harbour wall you may be able to make out some unusual flotsam washed up by the storm; the carcass of a white cow and several large, and I mean large, white balls of tallow.
