Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Two old birds

Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveler back to his own fireside and quiet home!
Charles Dickens

This brace of birds are long serving Christmas tree decorations in the Talpid household.

I made the blue tit from balsa wood, card and wire while at primary school, in 1949. So, this will be his 64th Christmas appearance.

The glass bird, made in Bohemia, decorated my grandfather's tree when he was a boy and dates from the 1880s. So, she has been making an annual appearance for over a hundred and twenty years.

I think that we have had pretty good value from the two of them!
