a lifetime burning

Sun worshippers

It's a short working week for me, but that brings with it the problem that the amount of the work is the same, I now just need to try to condense it into the four working days that are available.  If you combine that with the delights of Bristol's traffic just at the moment, you take up most of my waking hours today.

The one distraction from this has been the parcel that arrived from Cathy's brother Steve, who has been researching their family history.  This is the second instalment from Steve, whose earlier work looked at the story of their paternal Grandfather, a Labour candidate for Nottingham in the 1926.general election.

This latest instalment looks at a more remote paternal ancestor George, who turns out to have been in the 11th Hussars - which were part of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War.  George fought at Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol in his mid '40s one of the older soldiers. Somehow he survived the fighting, disease and the terrible conditions to make it home largely unscathed.  It has been a fascinating read this evening and has kept Cathy and I engaged for a couple of hours.

What an interesting family I married into!
