Spring hike at Clifton Gorge

Monday
Beautiful weather for a hike along the Little Miami River as it flows through John Bryan State Park and Clifton Gorge, about an hours drive north of here. We took a picnic with us, which we enjoyed at a picnic table in John Bryan State Park before setting out. Despite it being a weekday, there were quite a few other people out enjoying the sunshine. As you can see in my collage, lots of wildflowers bordered the path.
We received some very sad news this evening. Roger was reading his emails this evening, and had one from the Cincinnati Cycling club, of which he is a member, announcing the death of a young female cyclist yesterday - she was cycling with a friend, and lost control of her bike, veering across the road into the path of a minivan. She was airlifted to hospital, but later died from her injuries. She was 34. He then opened another email from our church choir director, informing us that this was the niece of one of our choir members. How quickly one’s life can be turned upside down! Thinking of the family, the friend who witnessed it, and the minivan driver, who from what I’ve read, could have done nothing to avoid it.
