The chef at work

Jerry surprised us by coming over this morning. He's such fun, a wonderfully warm and kind person, and a fabulous musician. Angie came over too and we sang some songs together.

In the afternoon, the Y (40 laps), food shopping, cup cake making and some work. That was my day. Now Tiziano is cooking us a yummy dinner of rice with broccoli and zucchini. One of our favourites, especially with a nice glass of wine.

Luca sent me one of his papers for literature and humanities, entitled "Gazing into the Abyss: The Human Quest for Meaning". A hefty topic! It was about Dostoevsky and Cervantes, and the Conclusion touched me:

"All we can hope for as conscious individuals staring into the starry void above is to find a personal, subjective sense of meaning, attainable only by appreciating the simple realities of our human lives - be it through the beauty of a flowery meadow, the comfort of helping a friend in need, or the satisfaction of a hearty meal and a refreshing slumber."

Wise words for a 19-year old I thought.
