Third person plural

They / their / them. My Portuguese teacher Ilidio showed his first ever hint of frustration at me today when I was being slow on a question about verbs in the third person plural. It was 8am and possibly too early for the fine nuances of grammar.

I had a lunchtime meeting with a conservation colleague, an Italian who’s lived here for nearly 20 years. He carries much wisdom about entering into cooperative agreements with the government to help the management of protected areas. I tried to absorb his experience in a sponge-like fashion.
