Most of the day was spent on the drive down to Suffolk, to the cottage we have rented most years for quite a long time now. The day started sunny in Sheffield and was fine for most of the journey - until we got into Norfolk, where the heavens opened. By the time we arrived at our destination, it had brightened up, so once unpacked and rested we did our customary walk across the beautiful heathland near the cottage. The gorse it in full bloom, looking spectacular and smelling wonderful - that sweet perfume of coconut. Presumably it tastes pretty good too, as this Red Deer doe was feasting on it.
There wasn't a great deal of bird life around - but having said that, we got two ticks for our year list, with a good number of House Martins feeding over the small reservoir and a pair of Stonechat perched on a fence. We both thought we glimpsed a Dartford Warbler too, but not a good enough view to call it.
The forecast is set fair for the next few days, so we are looking forward to a good holiday!
