Bee-ing busy

What a beautiful day of weather, almost cloudless and perfect for bees- to swarm!
Rob and I were just taking our cups of tea up to the bench to enjoy the weather before going out, to our first meeting with the Kendal beekeepers.
Then there was all this buzzing and we actually saw all the bees leaving one of our hives and heading for the yew tree.
We about faced and went to don our kit. Fortunately I had prepared some brood frames last week so we were able to shake the swarm into a hive, then dash off to an apiary visit at a local primary school. The young beekeepers were all very knowledgeable and told us about their bees as they checked their hives. It’s a great thing to have a school doing this.
Back home, all was well and we moved them to the hive stand. It’s a relief not to have lost them at this critical time of year!
