Knarly Tree

I have passed this tree numerous times and sometimes photographed it, but to date it had always come second best. I think perhaps on brighter days the lighter patches on the trunks, which do help the tree stand out from the background, reflected the sun creating too much contrast.

Today, however, an overcast sky on a dull evening allowed me to make a decent capture. I played around in processing to bring out its texture and emphasise the elegant twisting shape, against quite a messy background.

I like the gesture of the tree, particularly with the lower branch going towards the right, as if an outstretched arm, cradling the leaning trunk of its neighbour.
