Crossing the Arctic Circle

We crossed the Arctic Circle early in the morning and enjoyed a Crossing the Line ceremony, involving a crew member dressed as Neptune and having ice cubes shoved down the back of your neck (volunteers only - and no, I didn't!!) We even got a certificate to prove we've crossed the Line!

Our stops today included Bodo, the capital of the Nordland region pictured here, Stamsund and Svolvaer. We are getting quite good at the Norwegian pronounciations now, so none of these sound as they look! In Svolvaer, we visited the Ice Magic Gallery, which contains fabulous ice sculptures by many Norwegian and international artists. Quite difficult to see some of them, as the lights have to be kept low so as not to melt the artwork!

We were out on deck at midnight to see the entrance to the very narrow Trollfjord and were given free fish rissoles as a reward for braving the cold.
