Shadow Play

Naturally occurring shadows caused by that elusive yellow orb in our sky were not an option today as it continues rainy and cold outside. It feels more like February than May. We got an inch and a half of rain yesterday, and it doesn't feel much different today...

This allium, which began life as a spring onion seed planted in our herb garden, has now just about come full circle , and I decided to pick it before it explodes into all sorts of unwanted places. I  brought it inside where I could play with it without fear of a drenching and with some other light source. We have a couple of task lamps that each have five LED lights, each of which casts a separate shadow, The lamps themselves are beautifully designed and could probably stand alone as an abstract shot.

Just as everything has burst its jacket , bloomed and burgeoned in spring-like fashion, this cold drenching rain and wind threatens to blow them away, so I thought I'd take a few pictures before that happens. Naturally my camera died before I got very far, so I took the 'wine and roses ' shot in the extra at the La Crema vineyard in Windsor with my phone. The blooms are spectacular and the vines marching over the hills are covered with bright green leaves....

Dana is leaving for Paris on Saturday,  taking the place of her friends' partner who has a business conflict. Last night she asked me if I wanted to take the place of the other woman's husband who has injured his knee. I told her I was very tempted but feared that the spontaneous days of being able to go to Paris on two days' notice were over. It would probably take me two days to find my passport! I also told her I wouldn't want to slow them down, but was truly gratified that she was still willing to invite her mom along. She said , 'you wouldn't slow us down, you would make the trip better.' Now that inspires me to start working on a trip that is just a bit less spontaneous. And would include her. We have had some wonderful trips together....
