Cañar climb & the reservoirs

Our first exploration into the Sierra Nevada didn't disappoint. Nor did the coffee shops; we excelled ourselves today!

Four!
In 15 miles.
It wasn't entirely our fault.

We enjoyed a stop in Orgiva before the climb up to Cañar and realised there was a fairly substantial running race going on. We managed to work out it wasn't going up our hill but would be on the next leg of our route once we descended.

Our timing was very lucky - we set off half an hour before it began, heading up a wonderful winding road to a beautiful white village at the top of the hill.

After a hot ascent, there in front of our very eyes was an unexpected and idyllic white-washed cafe. It seems an expat hotspot too and we chatted to a guy with a rescue dog who had been there for nearly 30 years.

Enjoying being idiots on the helipad on the way down, we made the most of the joys of descending - perfect corners, photo opps and a hairdryer breeze.

We were back at the junction for the last 15 minutes of the road closure so, rather than standing in the heat, nipped across the roundabout to the waiting cafe!

We weren't ready for lunch though so a few miles up the hill we 'had' to find another rest station for our final stop before the magnificent decent.

A rather lovely way to while away the day.
