Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

First Pooch

We heard today that the Obamas are about a month away from increasing the size of their family by one dog. We're excited for them, but we think we've already got the best dog in the whole world.

His name is "Bob." He is a Lhasa Apso by birth who rescued us when we brought him home from the animal shelter in January 1996. Then he was over a year old, but not more than two. So in dog years, now he's old and is completely deaf. We enjoy everyday with Bob.

Wednesdays, Mr. Fun is usually gone from the house for 12 long hours, Bob keeps me company all day while I do online office hours with my students, read, write, grade papers, pay bills, and he especially likes to go in the car with me when I am doing errands.

Robert James Waller, author of The Bridges of Madison County, says this about animals and people, " . . . I can tell you this for sure: All romantics like dogs and cats, and maybe some other creatures, preferably animals that come in off the road for a little sustenance and decide to stay around and participate in the craziness they sense in this place of food and laughter. Animals like romantics, for they know they will never be let down by them." ~~ from Old Songs in a New Cafe

Good night everyone from a couple of romantics in Southern California,
Rosie, (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol

Private note to Mr. Fun -- Do you remember the significance in our lives of February 25th?
