Tulip festival underwhelms again

I never know what to make of the Canadian Tulip Festival. On the one hand, I like the fact that it exists and draws 600,000 tulip fans to the capital every spring, And I also like that it remembers why it exists. Called A Celebration of the Gift of Tulips and Canada’s Role in the Liberation of the Netherlands in WWII,  it is what it says on the tin.

But every year, it leaves me feeling a bit meh.

I mean, what is it? It isn't advertised particularly well, doesn't try and reinvigorate itself every year, and just seems to be dying a slow death. Like my own bloody tulips.
