The baby tits being fed

I've noticed the consumption of bird food has gone up again recently. As I sat at the table beside the doors into the garden I noticed a lot of tits flying to and fro, especially blue tits eating mostly suet pellets, rather than sunflower seeds. Then some rather small tits arrived and stood around with rather odd and ruffled feathers, some of them flapping their wings whilst standing on the trellis.

It wasn't long before a parent arrived and started to shove food down into the squawking mouths of the juveniles. It looked as if the parent had semi-digested the rather larger pellets and then regurgitated them as balls of food for their young. The bird on the left is a juvenile also, and the parent took it in turns to feed them both.

I've noticed the presence of the bullfinches as usual and a couple of nuthatches, but the long-tailed tits are absent and only a couple of goldfinches are feeding regularly, instead of the flocks of up to twenty we sometimes see around the garden Spring is well under way here..
