The Jambo Hordes

The big day out! For, by scraping through ties against Auchinleck Talbot, Partick Whistle and ICT, we’ve landed a cup final tie against Celtic. What joy. As they’ve won every game they’ve played since about 2008 or something and we’ve managed to score an average of 0.2 goals per game since New Year, it clearly looks like a bit of a forgone conclusion. The bookies make us 9:1 against winning which is a bit mean: 100:1 would probably be more realistic.
Still, hope springs and all that, so through we do travel - Rog, the SK and me, to meet Frank, Liz and Peter at Andrew & Louise’s gaff in delightful Govanhill. And they’ve laid on a spread! Fantastic stuff - apparently they’ve been supplementing their meagre incomes by running a supper club for tourists at a nearby boozer. Oysters! Smoked fish and asparagus. Lemon Tart.
Perfect for stepping through the rain soaked streets as lines of buses disgorge the pissed up jumbo hordes. Oh yes, takes all sorts.
And every ten minutes I text my pals - still nil-nil - still in there! Lordy, we even get to fifty minutes in! And then, blow me etc etc do we not score a goal. Really. The boy Edwards, back from loan to St Mirren.
Of course, if that had been the 85th minute we might have held on.
So, congratulations to Celtic on the treble treble. I mean, against all the odds….
