"Mi Amigo" memorial

Last night we were in Sheffield to help my sister and brother-in-law celebrate their Golden Wedding (although I'm sure I'm not old enough to have a sister that's been married 50 years).  A really good night in a small 'boutique' hotel, and it was great seeing people we'd not seen for a long time.  A fairly late night with excellent food and quite a lot of wine, so we're both feeling a bit jaded today.

The hotel was just on the edge of Endcliffe Park where the "Mi Amigo" memorial is situated.  It marks the crash site of the USAAF B-17 Flying Fortress "Mi Amigo" that crashed here on 22nd February 1944 with the loss of all 10 crew.  A local boy, Tony Foulds, witnessed the crash and is sure that the pilot took action to avoid hitting and killing him, and for many years has visited and tended to the memorial every day.  In January this year a BBC journalist came across Mr Foulds and heard the story and his wish that the event be commemorated, and the result was that in February 2019 a flypast of ten USAF and RAF planes was arranged over the site to mark the anniversary of the crash.  The flypast was shown live on TV and made the news across the world; a very emotional scene.

The memorial is modest and in a glade of trees.  With bright sunshine it was very difficult to get a decent shot so this has been 'faffed' quite a bit to lighten the shadows.  I've added an extra showing the position of the memorial amongst the trees.
