peregrine watch

The next days are usually the most exciting in the peregrines year. This year is no exception, late afternoon yesterday the smallest peregrine chick fell off the nest ledge. Unfortunately non of the regular birders were there but a passerby took the bird, who survived the long fall, to a local police station and reported they will pass him on to a falconer. We are awaiting any more news. The preferred solution would have been to get the bird back onto the nest or as close as possible to it but at least the chick is being given a chance to survive. The disadvantage of a falconer getting the chick is he is likely to keep him in captivity. These young birds apparently change hands at very high prices, this one is a gift.

More positively the 2 strongest youngsters are now developing well and shaking off their fluffy white feathers as can be seen in extras.
