Brotton Fan House

A fascinating visit to a fan house - yesterday I didn't know what one of those was - today I have a bit of an idea! We discovered this gem through a book I have of 'Wild Ruins' and it's one of many that used to be in the area south of Teeside - it meant a bit of a walk and then some determination in getting a lens where it was discouraged - all perfectly safe though.  All the machinery has long since gone but there used to be an enormous centrifugal fan extracting the foul air from the ironstone mines,  Main blip of the building suitably treated and an extra of the old engine house.

Teeside itself was quite grim but I could easily have spent a few hours recording the dereliction and neglect of the industrial sites.

Continuing down the coast - lovely beaches - we passed through Whitby which was very busy and are now on a site near Rievaulx Abbey which we hope to visit in the morning. The weather is not so great though so, after having lunch with an ex teaching colleague we will either head for home or continuing out meanderings,
