Good Morning America How Are You?

This red barn was south of Chicago in Illinois.   Our train was late getting into Chicago and again we had a nice lounge to wait in.  We chatted with a couple who had been on the train from New York.  They were waiting for a connecting train to Minnesota. They like a T.V  series  "The Brokenwood Mysteries"  which is produced in New Zealand. Small world.  We were boarding the California Zephyr train to go to Denver. Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska all looked flat to the horizon.  This central part of America is huge.  A highlight was crossing the Mississippi River at Burlington Iowa, as we sat down for dinner.  This train has an observation car and you can sit comfortably and watch the vast plains pass by.  The dinner menu and service was excellent.  I don't know how they did that in such small quarters.  Another interesting couple to talk to.  We were both happy to have our beds made up early and went to sleep about 9. p.m.  It was a better nights sleep but I woke up to see lightning flashing across the sky and heavy rain.  In the morning we were told the train was running three hours late due to stopping for flooding on the tracks.
