Wily Coyote

In North America, coyotes started out in the Southwest. They have been variously viewed as a scourge on sheep and cattle raising and are a very effective predator. Historically, there have been many failed attempts to control, manage and reduce the numbers of coyotes - many of them quite shameful by todays standards. However, in spite of all these efforts, the coyote spread and adapted to ever more urban environments. I am told that there are now families of coyotes happily living in Central Park in New York City. This photo was taken at an exhibit at Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County.

Wherever you live in the continental US, you an be sure that you are not far away from the wily coyote.
