Tips on ageing

In less than five years we should be able to buy a pill that will enable us to live a longer and healthier life.
It’s already on sale in America.

Camilla Cavendish, author of “10 lessons for an Ageing World”, told a Hay audience today that this pill is just one in the armoury of tools we will be able to use to help us live a healthier and fitter old age.

Meanwhile there are simple changes we can all make (yes we have heard most of it before i.e. exercise more, loose weight, don’t smoke and drink in moderation) only this time Cavendish has explored the problem on a global scale and backed it up with sound research.

“We should treat sugar like we did tobacco and ban it.  It is addictive,” she says.
The brain needs to be challenged daily and doing the Times crossword puzzle is not enough.
Learning a language or a musical instrument is a much better workout for the brain.

And one of the best workouts for the brain and the body is ballroom dancing because it has the added bonus of being a social activity, very important as we age.

Oh yes and those who age well are the folk who keep on working, either paid or voluntary.

And tonight for light relief we met up with family members and went to a musical evening of Faure’s Requiem set to jazz with the Hay Choral Society.
