Different faces

I don't normally fish the Monday of Queens Birthday weekend but today a few of us did.

We were out earlier than the past couple of days and were on the water before the sun appeared.

Brrrrrrrr! It was freezing. Our reels were iced up and it was tricky peeling line off.

I found my fishing mojo this morning and had 3 trout netted by the time the sun hit the water. Then it was hard work until I found another combination that worked.

The sun was welcome but the wind kept things chilly.

All good things must come to an end and we were on the road and heading home before 1pm.

It's been a good weekend. It was a highlight to see a wallaby hopping off into the bushes yesterday. They're a much bigger breed in the Central South Island than the little ones that used to be on Rangitoto Island.

And the scale and force of water spilling over the Benmore, Aviemore, and Waitaki dams is breath taking.

Home is cosy and the the small black and white Jasper is a very happy cat.

Today's gratitude: For seeing the light change across the hills and lake as the sun came up. Magic.
