Culture Day

A public holiday today for the 73rd anniversary of the Republic. After watching the parade in front of the Cathedral we got tickets for the hop on hop off bus.

First stop for us was the archeological park. Mainly it is the site of another Greek Theatre. There had just been a performance as the staff were still collecting cushions from the seating areas. We also visited the Ear of Dionisio, a cave just below the theatre which has roughly the shape of an ear. Finally we visited the Roman amphitheater. Only the lower levels remain but the outline is clearly visible.

On our return to Ortigia we had a walk along the sea front on one side of the island. Several people sunbathing on a small beach.
