Something Different...

....for Flower Friday.

Now that my husband is fully retired, we are going to try to take one day each week to explore various locations in our area together.  Today we went to the newly opened boardwalk at Neabsco Creek in Woodbridge, Va.  Because of the terrible traffic between our house and this location about 35 miles away, we didn't leave until midday so there wasn't much wildlife to be seen.  Still, it was very nice and might be worth an early morning trip on the weekend.   It was here that we noticed this small water lily bud that we thought was covered in ants but when viewed through my lens and the binoculars, we realized it was covered in tiny flies.

After we walked the boardwalk, we stopped briefly at Ripon Lodge and then went to Occoquan, a tiny historic town on the Occoquan River.  We walked its few streets, and then parked ourselves in a bar overlooking the river where we had a drink, followed by a lovely dinner.
