The Old Forge (Friday 7th June 2019)

It seems that there is something new to look at in the garden every day at the moment. This iris came out during half an hour while our backs were turned on Gardening Wednesday. It is beside the pond opposite the iris foetidissimas, which have gone berserk this year.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Grateful Dead - St Stephen (1969 Mix) (Remastered) (recorded December 1968 - March 1969, San Mateo and San Francisco CA)
While the band were recording the palindromic album Aoxomoxoa a 16-track tape recorder was installed at the studio they were using, so they scrapped three months work on the old 8-track system and began again, filling up all the tracks on the new toy with multiple overdubs. A couple of years later they realised the results were cluttered and muddy, and remixed the whole album for re-release. All the CD versions until now have used the simpler 1971 remix, but a significant number of Deadheads have always prized the original, more psychedelic version, and a new 50th anniversary edition was released on this day in 2019 that contained both mixes (as well as a second disc recorded live at the Avalon Ballroom) and landed on my welcoming doormat.
It was a Red Letter Day for music as the same post also brought a Dylan box set (see Extras) but tracks from it haven't surfaced on You Tube yet, so my LOTD is St Stephen, a fixture in their live set throughout their lengthy career, including on Live/Dead which was recorded in February 1969, before Aoxomoxoa had even been completed.
