Up North

The dreadful weather of the last couple of days has moved north. Sadly, so have we. Now in Newcastle-upon-Tyne for a couple of days visiting old haunts. I lived here for several years many years ago and although it isn't my 'home' town I've always thought that if I ever had to move back to the North East it would be to here rather than where I was born even though I still keep in touch with friends there.

Newcastle has the distinction of being the only inland city in the world to have a colony of Kittiwakes, which nest on ledges of buildings and on the Tyne Bridge shown in my picture. The general smell of fish attests to the fact that there are a lot of sea birds around!
