Lost Hills

We hit the road (the dreaded I-5) at 6:45 this morning...
The views are all wide, unless you're stuck behind one truck trying to pass another one....
I think I might have seen a live tree about 200 miles back...
There used to be almond orchards and vineyards along this stretch of road but, due to a depleted aquifer, many of the trees and vines are dead and are being taken out and ground for compost*....
The hills are really this color. They look more like sand dunes....
We're home now and happy to be here, but already missing the chaos of two busy parents, two adolescent young women and all their friends, and four dogs....
We had an easy drive home. We only realized how hot it was outside when we stopped for gas and stepped out of the car...
Ozzie was happy to see us, but I think Donna has stolen his heart....
