making long-term plans

The builder has given us some plans of the new (old) house (factory building) so we can mark up where we want electrical sockets, TV, phone points, lights etc.

Somethings are easy, others more difficult.  We find an obvious place for the TV and some of the electrical sockets.  But lighting the space is more difficult to visualise.

Anniemay wonders about long-term energy sources.  So - while we have the chance to specify these things - a gas boiler or an electric boiler?  Gas is (currently) a cheaper fuel, but electric boilers are cheaper to buy and install and are more efficient at converting fuel than gas boilers.  (Solar power is not currently an option for this building)

She also thinks we should become more carbon-neutral;
"I think we should become carbon-neutral by 2050", she says.

I'm not sure it's going to be relevant in our case.

"That's 30 years away" I say:  "I'm 72 now - I'll be 100% carbon by then."
