The Quare Fellow #EPEA2019

This mural is being painted on the gates which form the old entrance to Mountjoy prison in Dublin. It's the work of two art teachers from the gaol. It's based on a still from the film of The Quare Fellow by Brendan Behan. Behan grew up in this area and was later incarcerated here for the attempted murder of two Garda detectives. Although the two central characters are the actors from the film the background people are prison officers.

Had a sprint round the prison including the 'hang room' where many men (and one woman) were executed. Other executions were also carried out by firing squad and there are still bodies buried in parts of the prison grounds.
