Durness - Kylesku

Day three.

Distance: 36 miles
Weather: Sun, snow, hail, improving.
Wind: South-westerly (in our faces)

Great cooked breakfast and we left Durness in the sunshine.

As soon as we were out of the village, the blizzard started again and the wind was straight into our faces. We stopped at an abandoned cottage and sheltered from the snow for a few minutes.

Then we climbed up past Strath Dionard and Foinavon and over to the west coast with the best views and scenery yet. The sun shone and warmed our knees and noses in between hail showers. (hail in your face going downhill at 30mph stings a bit)

Half-way there, Nick stopped to try to fix a rubbing brake disc and the hydraulics clamped the pads shut and seized the wheel. He took the whole disc off and carried on without front brakes.

The last section was a long downhill run in the sunshine and was incredible. Adding to the enjoyment, we knew that we had warm baths, comfy beds, good beer and lots of seafood just round the corner at the Kylesku Hotel. We even sat out by the sea in shorts and t-shirts with our first beer.
