New bridge is almost ready

After decades of threatening, we are finally being treated to a new bridge over the WORLD'S LARGEST SKATING RINK (TM) , otherwise known as the Rideau Canal (or the Rideau Anal as I embarrassingly called it in an article I wrote a few years ago - seriously, just what are editors for in any case)?

All that remains is the landscaping and the planting and the inevitable political photo ops, and then the new pedestrian bridge connecting Old Ottawa East to Old Ottawa South will be operational. We can look forward to aggressive cyclists ringing impatient bells as parents push strollers tranquilly in the warm summer evenings, to joggers and Red-Blacks fans... actually, it is pretty nice, and if it convinces people to walk and cycle instead of taking the car, then I am all for it.

Progress... sometimes it is, you know, okay....
