Siebenschläfertag
dict.cc tells me Siebenschläfertag means Dormouse Day and even I with my rudimentary Deutsch know that that is a load of horseapples.
There is a a critter here known as the Siebenschläfer - known in Englisch as the edible dormouse - and is so-called because it hibernates for 7 months of the year (maybe it doesn't, maybe they just don't post much on Facebook).
But Siebenschläfertag is named for the Seven Sleepers Of Ephesus - better known for the Temple Of Artemis, one of the 7 Ancient Wonders of The World, rather than the 7 Sleepy Teenagers.
Legend has it that whatever the weather is like on Siebenschläfertag, it will stay that way for 7 weeks (isn't that a lot like Groundhog Day or St. Swithin's Day or all of these?). Anyway, it was mercilessly hot today. If it stayed like that for 7 weeks, I will be reduced to a slick of sweat.
