Large Blue

The rare and once extinct butterfly in the UK has been introduced back to the reserve in Gloucestershire and seems to be thriving.

Getting there early, having the fields to myself in the quiet of a positively golden morning was wonderful and I was just keeping my fingers crossed that I would spot one. I've seen one before last year but never got the wings open resting shot which was what I was aiming for today. I got it and spent a happy hour watching them ovipositing, flitting and trying out all the various flowers there on the bank.

So very chuffed to see them and I went home to tackle the Breeze House painting job with gusto. Am now pretty much covered in brown stain and knackered!
