Salem (and that's your) Lot

Ha, see what I did there. This morning we packed our bags for the last time and left Concord (Vermont) and headed for Salem (Massachusetts). These north eastern states are crazy... same town names in each state so you have to always make sure you are looking at the correct one - we've got it wrong a few times. Back in May we were in the real Londonderry, which is also called Derry. Here there is a Londonderry with Derry adjacent on the other side of the highway! Eh? You'd expect one of them to decide to travel a bit further before declaring this town Londonderry/Derry, or maybe they enjoyed the sectarian banter too much?

Where was I? Yes we got to Salem, which is famous for the witch trials in 1692... both men and women. 19 were hanged and one, who refused to speak in court, was crushed to death. All declared their innocence to the end... because witches don't exist? The top left photo in the blip is of the memorial to them, although they have no record of where their bodies are.

We came across a statue of Samantha Stephens from the Bewitched TV show I used to love... ah... that nose twitch. Those were the days. I didn't realise she died in 1995.

So despite this just being 8 days here, it feels like it has been much longer, which is a good thing. We've loved all of it, not too rushed despite plenty more we could have done. To think it may get even nicer during fall! It was definitely more picturesque north west of Boston and I am pretty sure we'd like to do this again someday fingers crossed. We're not on the flight and I am already missing it.

I was a bit apprehensive about this trip, all the furore with the POTUS and his supporter hysteria and how similar attitudes are to back home, but everyone we met was (still) extremely polite and courteous, on the road and in person and something I am not that used to, despite having visited here various times. In the past I have been a bit dismissive of it but it was a surprise and something I really appreciated more than before.

And finally... we played a Subaru game every day... back home you rarely see one, but like every 5th car is a Subaru... how common?
