Into The Light

I never thought myself to be much interested in photographing plants, but I have to say I'm quite enjoying searching for shapes, textures, colours and contrast.

I recently saw a Michael Kenna photo on Instagram titled Mamta’s Lotus depicting a white flower against black leaves (assume it's b&w) that inspired me to seek out similar contrasts.

Here, the flower of a hosta begins its journey into the light, squeezing its way between two leaves. I like the contrast and tried to emphasize that in post. I also like the space division of one big leaf shape and parts of several others of varying sizes.

The leaves seem to have a glossy feel, almost like they are in water, but that's not the case.
