Alcazar and Jerez Horse Fair

Backblip
Slowly working through the holiday journal!

Last September we only had a couple of days in Jerez and one of them was a trip to Cádiz so we missed a visit to the Alcazar. After breakfast we remedied that and spent a good two hours exploring this well restored palace. We wandered up an avenue with a sea of purple as the Jacaranda trees were I full bloom! The Alcazar itself was stunning with beautiful gardens and a haven of peacefulness- we were practically on our own here.

After lunch it was back to the grounds for the continuation of the horse fairs. The colours, sounds, horses and music all together make it such a fun atmosphere. We sat in a restaurant with a good position to see everyone parading around us.

One of the highlights as we walked to go away were some single horsemen and women stopping in a line and getting sherry delivered to them from the Tio Pepe bodega.

And as an observation, despite the amount of people and alcohol I didn’t see anyone being carted into a wagon by the police and no one throwing up outside a bar or folks hammering Seven bells out of one another!

This time we walked back into the Centre, freshened up and back out again for our evening meal. Sitting outside watching horse and carriages come back from the fair and beautifully dressed ladies in their flamenco dresses wander around the old cobbled streets.

I must return, I do love Jerez.
