Love Monte, Love Odeceixe

The tremendous breakfasts we’ve had in the past here are just as good. Met an American couple from Napa Valley and their friend Rick on an extended tour of Europe (2 months)!

We got ready for our usual walk through the countryside to the stunning beach at Odeceixe. A 12 kilometre round trip and we stop here and have refreshment, then a walk over the beach. Surfers were out as you can see the waves were good. We love it here, it’s one of our happy places.

After walking back in which we came across a couple of storks had a chill out reading by the pool. We had sad news from the owner of Monte to say that his wife Carla had died last November of the cancer she had told us she had when we were here two years ago. Upsetting to hear this - she was such a beautiful vibrant lady - it was she who had created this beautiful place and built up its reputation.

Later we went out to a restaurant in the village where we always go to - massive portions of traditional Alentejan food! As we walked back to the car there was a holt procession taking place - spooky music and swinging lanterns.
