Life in Sunny Dubai

The Art of Dialogue

After a productive day at home, G & I ventured out late afternoon to an event that I only became aware of yesterday. An email from the DBWC advertised this panel discussion in the Design District area. It was ninety minutes in the evening, free and I was allowed to take a guest. The topic sounded interesting, though, at the time, I had no idea how relevant it would be to us.

We showed up just before start time and found ourselves the best seats that didn't have a "Reserved" sign on them! We then got treated to a drink and some nibbles, and a very chatty person from the host company (ESAG) gave us a tour of the premises and all that the company offers. They happen to be the agents for Siemens, SMEG, Dunlop and a few other brands, but their main area of operation is interior design and building materials.

The event itself started nearly an hour late. I hadn't registered it when booking, but the main panellist was the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development. There was also an Emirati photographer who is documenting life as it was and an Iraqi born visual artist. It turns out the topic was totally relevant to us and we thoroughly enjoyed the two hours we spent there listening to the speakers. I can't remember ever being in a room where there were so many people who have grown up in Dubai. The good thing is they all feel it is important to preserve some of the past and its memories.

Home to a Lebanese meal courtesy of our local. They really do cook delicious food. I hope they have enough business to stay afloat!
