What a lovely day:-

for a Sign of Midsummer

Strictly not midsummer from our calendar but certainly this willowherb marks it from the perspective of the honeybee.

The bees have been through what we call "the June Gap" when there is a short lull in the flowering of nectar producing plants.

Now things are really busy again with the flowering of white clover and blackberry and a complete array of wild flowers.

I always think that willowherb is a good indicator of this productive time of year. A close examination will reveal a honeybee somewhere....

For years I have tried to sow its seed and produce new plants, but it does exactly what it wants to.
