Short-eared Owl

It isn't really navigating through the signs but I thought it showed how close to the road it is.
I cycled along to the rough ground beyond the pier at Hatston because there is a lot of docken there and I was hoping to see two-barrred crossbills. They are rare in the UK but unseasonal snow in Norway, it seems, has resulted in some movement south and south-west and docken is a plant they fee upon. Some are in Shetland so it was worth having a look here. Didn't see any, but at least I tried. There was a hunting male hen harrier and this owl, both hunting about a mile or so from Kirkwall.
