Standen

Another happy day out, this time at the lovely National Trust house, Standen. We met our South African friends Helen and David who are staying with their daughter in Tunbridge Wells. Standen is a small (by National Trust standards!) house in the Arts and Crafts style. It is easy to imagine living there. It would be good to sit in these comfortable chairs in the conservatory. At the moment there is an added attraction, a William Morris exhibition. The dining table (extra) is set for dinner for Morris' artistic friends. The Morning Room looks as though the occupants have just left the room. Another extra shows paper flowers above the famous Morris quotation about what we should have in our homes.
We had a light lunch together and made plans to see them again before they fly home.
it took us just an hour to get to Standen, but two hours to get home, much of it stationary in a traffic jam on a by road. We never found out what caused it but M25 problems earlier in the day can cause problems over a wide area.
