Angst

The gannets are breeding now at Bempton cliffs up in Yorkshire. Every ledge on the cliff face is heaving with birds: guillemots , herring gulls, kittiwakes, the odd puffin and chicks!

Such is the tight squeeze for space there are squabbles with parents seeing off possible intruders. I've never seen a gannet chick before but gosh they are ugly - huge just absolutely massive, white and fluffy, the head of a vulture, the body of  sheep and gangly wings.  The parent in the Extra had been feeding her offspring, regurgitating food and the chick  still wanted more. What a job!!
