Barton

Mr Flum found the entry in our Packhorse Bridge book of three we might visit on our journey south.

The first crossed the Deepdale Beck near Barnard Castle but, after walking for half an hour without finding it, we gave up. However along the way we saw a flower new to us and identified by volunteers clearing the path as Giant Bellflower (Campanula latifolia,), not a garden escape as I had thought, but growing wild. Extra photo of one group.

Greater success was found in the pretty village of Barton, where wet feet are optional with the bridge next to a ford, in a delightful setting of weeping willows.

Very slow traffic on the A1M prevented any further stops and we reached our destination in time for tea with my old school friend.
