Rebels

The Extinction Rebellion protests in Bristol are continuing.  This is a shot of just one of the bizarre antics that the climate protesters are getting up to.  This piece of moving theatre I actually rather like, there is a chap with them explaining the symbolism and handing out leaflets.

Unfortunately some of their other tactics have dramatically alienated public support rather than engendered it.

Yesterday a small group of them superglued themselves to a bathtub which they left in the middle lane of the M32 where it comes into the centre of Bristol.  The end result of which was that entire length of the M32  (7km  or 4.4 miles if you prefer) had been turned into a car park by 8am yesterday morning.  The police eventually did something about it, and 16 arrests were made, but not before a significant amount of inconvenience and irritation had been caused to those who had the misfortune to get caught up in it all.

Blocking a major traffic artery at that time of day meant that many were significantly delayed, even if not on the M32 itself.  People were delayed getting to hospital, others missed trains, many were late for work or business meetings etc

A straw poll at work indicated that 80% of my colleagues are now less likely to want to support the Extinction Rebellion cause than they had been at the start of the week.  I think that is a rather spectacular own goal, they need to be winning people to the cause not driving them away.
