Gunnison's Mariposa Lily

Camping Day 5 (Backblipped on Saturday)

The wildflowers have been disappointing this month.  Usually there are different flowers blooming each time we visit during the summer.  They were beautiful last month but not very many to be found this time.  I can't imagine why not since there has been a lot of moisture.  Anyway, I did find this beauty growing all by itself among some shrubs.  I identified it by taking a picture of my computer screen with a phone app called Plant Snap.  Worked like a charm.  Many thanks to BikerBear for hosting Flower Fridays! :-)

Tonight was the last night with our friends, R & J.  We have been treated to their gourmet cooking every night.  They insist on cooking for us when we're together and it's hard to refuse!  They never want us to bring or make anything.  His dream is being on "Chopped" on the Food Channel so I challenged him to cook dinner last night from surprise ingredients that we supplied.  We went to the store and got salmon, purple potatoes, asparagus, bacon, onion rolls, sunflower crunch chopped salad and fresh cherries.  He put it all together and prepared an amazing dinner in an hour.  While we were eating, we were treated to a beautiful show of color in the sky after sunset.  My extra is the view from the picnic table in the campsite.

I am grateful to R & J for spoiling us this week with their wonderful food and great company!
