Patio Progress

Two weeks ago today, I posted an entry documenting the replacement of our neighbour's patio across the way.  The energy level of the workers has remained pretty much at a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 -- they shimmer in to work at around 10:00 a.m., then stand around with their cell phones in hand, chatting for about half an hour before slowly, slowly setting up their tools for the task at hand.  About half an hour after this, they take a leisurely break for another thirty minutes or so before languidly getting back to the job before it's time to stop for lunch.

As you can see, it's taken them a very long time to get not that much done.  I cannot for the life of me figure out the design (if there even is one) intended here.  First of all, the new stones they are laying down do not in any way enhance/contrast well/complement the existing "border" of yellow tiles.  Then we have the weirdness being created in the center, where the opposing angles clearly present a challenge they are not apparently up to the task of conquering.  What is with the sudden drastic change in width/colour/texture of these new wide, strangely cut slabs?  Why do some of them appear to have cracks in them?  So many questions.  Maybe if they deign to show up for work sometime soon (they are not there today!) answers will be forthcoming...
