Supersonic

So that was that and now there's a review to write. I've got about 2,500 words and a bit more to add.

It's been an interesting learning curve. Billed as "for curious audiences" it hasn't all been about noise and thrash metal. Instead, it's about bands who are prepared to push boundaries, to reject the normal and to go it their way rather than have anyone else tell them how it should be done.

That's what made a band like Neurosis so interesting on Friday.

The headline version is they are uncompromising heavy, loud and difficult to listen to. Some of that may be true, but there's more to it than that.

There were surprising moments of calm and intricacy during their set. These guys are skilled at what they do. There's no point in picking up a guitar and just beating the living daylights out of it. That may be fun, but its not particularly interesting.

With one or two exceptions, just about every band I saw ticks the "interesting" box for one reason or another.

But you'll need to wait until Wednesday for the review to hear the rest of my thoughts. Should you be so inclined.
